Catholic schools and universities are spread all over the world, some have centuries-old traditions, others are more recent and their number bears witness to the importance that the Church attributes to them. The members of the Plenary Assembly of the Congregation for Catholic Education, convened in 2011, accepted the invitation of Pope Benedict XVI and entrusted the Dicastery the organization of the 50th Anniversary of the Declaration Gravissimum Educationis and the 25th Anniversary of the Apostolic Constitution Ex corde Ecclesiae of Pope John Paul II in order to relaunch the Church's commitment in the field of education and instruction.
