Homilies of Ephrem the Syrian in a new book by Tomasz Szymczak

The year 2020 was the centenary of Pope Benedict XV's proclamation of St Ephrem as a Doctor of the Universal Church. Today, in the Syriac Churches, St Ephrem is remembered in a special way as the person who created the choirs of female voices singing liturgical hymns: a truly modern way of living catechesis, evangelisation and liturgy! In “Colui che ruba i peccati. Celebrare la misericordia” Tomasz Szymczak, editor of the text, presents for the first time the Italian translation of the texts concerning the episode of the Sinner who anointed Jesus' feet, as recounted in Luke's Gospel in chapter 7. The same evangelical theme, which is very dear to Syrian literature in general, was also the subject of another LEV book: in “Amore che profuma” by St James of Sarug, in fact, Tomasz Szymczak edited the translation of the Homily on the forgiven sinner.

The book is part of the series Vita nello Spirito - Scritti inediti dei Padri della Chiesa. The preface is by Sebastian Paul Brock.
