This oeuvre examines the Pontiff’s commitment to carry forward the initiatives and the decisions sealed by the II Vatican Council. The analysis of his ecumenical theology of conciliar inspiration here proposed is interesting above all because Francis, on the contrary of his predecessors, did not take part in the conciliar sessions. The volume is structured in four chapters which, starting from the analysis of his gestures and the first steps of his pontificate rich in ecumenical pontential (1), research the roots of such an attitude in his biography by examining his role as a Pastor of the Church in Argentina, promotor “of the common good” aimed at the pacific cohabitation (2); later, it highlights Francis’ personal contribution to ecumenism through the re-examination of his words and actions in the light of the ecumenical overview in the dialogue with the Orthodox Churches and the Churches and ecclesial communities deriving from Luther’s Reform (3); the oeuvre ends with the ecumenical programme of Pope Francis contained in Evangelii gaudium, that is to say the programmatic document of his pontificate (4).
