This oeuvre examines the features of Bergoglio’s missionary pontificate, the newness of his ministry based on God’s mercy and tenderness, his devotion to Our Lady and her Mariological teaching. In his contribution, the Author examines the Mariology which emerges from Francis’s spirituality and pastoral care, highlighting his view on the figure of Mary as embodiment of the intimate relationship with God’s mystery in Christ, with the Church and its mission. This is the reason why Galli gives a theological reading of events and writings which are inter-related, commenting in particular the texts written by the Pontiff. Thus, the Author traces a fluid itinerary in different steps: the passage from Marian piety to Mariology through the sensus fidei of God’s people; the newness of Francis’s pontificate in relation to the Latin American Church, to Marian spirituality and to the Aparecida project; the integration of Mary’s mystery in Christ’s mystery and the announcement of the Gospel; the correlation between Mary’s maternity and the mystery of the 'Church-Mother', evangelizing God’s People; the presence of the Mother of Mercy in the history of the holy People living among the world’s people.
