For the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity we propose the reading of: "Nostra Madre Terra. Una lettura cristiana della sfida dell’ambiente" and "La Preghiera. Il respiro della vita nuova". These are the first two volumes belonging to the Exchange of Gifts, the publisher's series characterised by its ecumenical vocation which, in addition to the Holy Father's texts and speeches accompanied by one of his unpublished writings, always offers an introduction signed by a representative of the brothers and sisters of the separated Churches and Ecclesial Communities, with whom we are on the way to re-establishing full communion.
"Nostra Madre Terra. Una lettura cristiana della sfida dell’ambiente" offers a selection of texts from Pope Francis' magisterium on the environment, an unpublished text of his on the Christian vision of creation and a preface by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. From the earliest days of Pope Bergoglio's pontificate, the custody of creation and human life - connected and indivisible gifts that God has given to man - have been among the key themes of his magisterium.
"La Preghiera. Il respiro della vita nuova" offers a selection of texts from the magisterium of Pope Francis dedicated - as the title suggests - to prayer, with particular attention to the catechesis on the "Our Father" in the Wednesday audiences. The collection is introduced by the preface of the Patriarch of Moscow, Kirill, who shows the profound harmony between Catholics and Orthodox in living the Christian dimension of the encounter with the Lord: through communion with the Holy Spirit, even when one prays in the secret of one's room, in reality the whole Church and the world are participants. The book closes with an unpublished text by the Holy Father on the "role" and "place" of prayer within the Christian life, which is the new life given to us by the Holy Spirit in baptism, which in Jesus has made us true children of the Father.
