"Teologia in dialogo" a book by Cardinal Walter Kasper

"Teologia in dialogo" is a book published by Libreria Editrice Vaticana by the theologian Walter Kasper, Cardinal President Emeritus of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. It is part of the series Pastori Discipoli (Shepherd Disciples) and offers for the first time in Italian the text Theologie im Diskurs belonging to the Opera Omnia of Cardinal Walter Kasper, whose texts have been selected and collected by George Augustin and Klaus Krämer.

The title of the work, "Teologia in dialogo", 'expresses a concern that has accompanied me from the beginning of my theological work', Cardinal Kasper states in the Preface (p. 3). The theme finds its roots in the 13th century with Thomas Aquinas and the birth of the first European universities. It was then that theology developed as a science, growing hand in hand with the other disciplines of the university.
The Christian faith must always confirm itself anew in its identity, in dialogue with the questions of every age, so as to show its reasonableness. It is a matter of explaining the hope that dwells in us through the message of Jesus Christ. Theology as the science of faith is thus in dialogue with all the other sciences of all times. This volume systematically collects the insights and theological contents of paramount importance, which Cardinal Walter Kasper has developed in his long intellectual journey, in order to make them accessible for the first time to the wide audience of Italian-speaking readers. These are essential elements that build up the themes of theology as a science of faith, of faith within the historical process as well as of theological dialogue with theologians of high stature and contemporary cultural movements.
