The right to freedom of religion, recognised as fundamental in all human rights instruments, is increasingly the subject of attention in contemporary multi-cultural societies. The practice of national authorities and international institutions dealing with it has increased over time.
The aim of this book is to promote knowledge of this law and reflection on it by examining the international legal systems and those of the European Union, as both represent a point of reference for State policy in this area. The volume is the result of reflections carried out in the framework of the research "Democracy: an educational urgency in multicultural and pluri-religious contexts" - of which the Pontifical Foundation Gravissimum Educationis is the promoter - in the awareness that freedom of religion is one of the foundations of a fully democratic society.
