This volume is dedicated to the Hebrew reading of Gen 22, perhaps the most famous and enigmatic page of the Bible, which narrates the "sacrifice" (in Hebrew aqedah, lit. "binding") of Isaac. The text is divided into two parts. The first deals with the importance attributed to Gn 22 by the Jewish tradition, characterized by an incessant re-reading of the biblical page, constantly placed at the centre of Jewish life up to our days. The second part is an extensive anthology of texts, almost all of which have never been published in Italian, and which, through the rabbinic era and the Middle Ages, reached the Hassidic world and modernity. The comparison with the texts, enriched by exhaustive notes, allows the reader to access with rare effectiveness the fascinating spiritual world of Judaism, in a comparison that is extremely enriching for the Christian faith, because it is conducted on a biblical page that is essential for the ecclesial interpretation of the Scriptures.
