Luigi Cattani graduated in Hebrew language and literature in Venice (Ca' Foscari). He continued to deepen his theological reflection on the relations between Judaism and Christianity under the guidance of Don Giuseppe Dossetti, whose community he is a member of together with his wife, Daniela Leoni. He specialized in the edition of Hebrew exegetical texts - in particular the Commentary on the Pentateuch by Rashi of Troyes - and liturgical sources. He teaches Jewish culture at the Theological Faculty of Emilia.
