This re-issue of Pope Francis' encyclical Fratelli Tutti with an introduction by the episcopal vicar for laity and culture of the diocese of Trieste seeks to emphasize "a response that marks a qualitative turning point in relations between people and peoples... as Paul VI argued, to build 'the Civilization of Love.'" Love is," writes Pope Francis, "the only value capable of tending toward universal communion (n. 95) that generates new hearts (n. 88) and open societies that integrate all (n. 97), free from an authoritarian and abstract universalism...The Civilization of Love recognizes persons and every people as free, equal and fraternal (nos. 103-105)" (From the introduction).
