PERSEGUITATI PER LA VERITA'

UKRAINIAN GREEK CATHOLICS BEHIND THE IRON CURTAIN

The album is the fruit of a research project on the underground life of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, initiated by the Institute of Church History at the Ukrainian Catholic University to study the underground life of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and to document the legacy of martyrs and confessors of the faith - the famous ones, the lesser-known ones, the unnamed ones. The story of persecution and persecutors, as important as it is, served as the context for a much deeper and more morally compelling narrative: how believers overcame brutal oppression and guarded their inner freedom, despite the regime's relentless efforts to control their actions, thoughts, feelings, and most intimate beliefs. Fundamentally, it is the story of genuine freedom and real vitality that managed to overcome one of the greatest evils in human history.

The story of the underground Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church is a story of salvation, the understanding of which helps to address the acute problems of today, not only in Ukraine.

The Church is the people of God on a journey. She accompanies us in our personal and communal exodus out of the land of slavery. Often the road is winding and long. But we must not lose heart. For those with the eyes of faith, the way of the cross and the resurrection of the Greek Catholic Church demonstrate clearly and convincingly that God is the Lord of history and the Light of our Paschal passage. His Church is young. We have seen her miraculous deeds in our past. We should not be afraid or doubtful about the future. When we learn to live with God, in solidarity and peace with one another, freedom and dignity - which are our vocation - become a reality. We are encouraged by the witness and fate of the martyrs and confessors of the faith who look us straight in the eye from these pages.
