Papa Francesco e il «Messale Romano per le Diocesi dello Zaire»

an example of liturgical inculturation

Pope Francis and the "Roman Missal for the Dioceses of Zaire"

a new text published by Libreria Editrice Vaticana with a preface signed by Pope Francis

"Papa Francesco e il «Messale Romano per le Diocesi dello Zaire». Un rito promettente per altre culture" (pg. 232; Euro 20,00) is a new volume published by Libreria Editrice Vaticana - Dicastero per la Comunicazione edited by Rita Mboshu Kongo whose preface is signed by Pope Francis.

There are two central themes of cultural and ecclesial interest that the volume covers: the theme of inculturation and the ecclesiological perspective. "It is an instrument to know in depth various aspects of the Roman Missal for the Dioceses of Zaire" - writes Pope Bergoglio - "approved by the Congregation for Divine Worship on 30 April 1988. So far it is the only inculturated rite of the Latin Church approved after the Second Vatican Council. The Zairean rite of the Roman Missal is considered an example of liturgical inculturation" (pg. 3). The themes on which the contributors reflect, the Pontiff points out, call to "the need to go deeper, to something that touches the soul, the thought, the sensitivity, the cultural world of people. The liturgy must touch the hearts of the members of the local Church and be evocative" (pg. 4).

The book will be in bookshops from day 9 December and was presented today 1st December in Rome at 3.30 p.m. in the Sala Marconi of Palazzo Pio. The following spoke: Silvano Maria Tomasi, Cardinal Special Delegate for the Sovereign Military Order of Malta; Bruno Silvestrini, OSA, Liturgical Father - Custodian of the Apostolic Sacrarium. The meeting was moderated by Jean Pierre Bojoko, SJ, Father in charge of the French section Africa of Vatican Radio. The event will be broadcast live streaming in Italian and French.
