The book “Mio Dio, come sei buono. La vita e il messaggio di Charles de Foucauld” by Father Andrea Mandonico, professor of interreligious studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University, won the second edition of the Literary Award of the Ambassadors to the Holy See 2021.
The book delves into the life and spirituality of Brother Charles of Jesus "poor among the poor" and is part of the Inspirations series - Spirituality Section. In the preface, Monsignor Ennio Apeciti, rector of the Pontifical Lombard Seminary in Rome, outlines some aspects of Charles de Foucauld's personality, describing him as "an authentic model of Christianity [...] one who was never content; one who never resigned himself; one who always hoped" (pp. 10-13).
Narrating the story of a saint also means outlining his time, the society in which he lived, accompanying him on a historical journey, discovering the trace of his love for Christ and his brothers and sisters, trying to identify not only his goal but also his heart. In his book, Father Andrea Mandonico seeks out, finds and shows the heart of Brother Charles' path to holiness.
