Onorato Bucci is a  member of the Pontifical Committee of Historical Sciences, already Consultor of the Pontifical Commission for the revision  of the Code of oriental Canon Law and of the Congregation for the oriental Churches, now is a consultor of the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts. He was professor of Jus Greco Romanum (sive Byzantinum) and of Iura Orientis Antiqui Mediterranei (then Historia Institutorum Antiqui Orentis) at the Pontifical Lateran University from 1973 to 2005. Retired since November 2013, he was full professor of Istituzioni di diritto romano and Diritto dell’Antico Oriente Mediterraneo at the University of Molise where he was Director of the Department of Juridical Sciences after leaving the University of Siena in 1991
