Cardinal Amato develops a profound reflection on the saints, the martyrs, their meaning in the Church and in society today. In the preface he himself writes that "the saints are the true elite of the Church. They are our teachers of life, prayer and apostolate. Not only do they ennoble the Church, but they benefit humanity with a multiplicity of gifts that make society more fraternal, welcoming, peaceful and good". The study of these anchors of charity and mercy is accompanied by the homilies pronounced by the Cardinal during 2015, especially on the occasion of beatifications.
