La speranza cristiana, as the title itself anticipates, offers a new series of catechesis on the theme of hope. A very significant issue for the Pontiff, who considers it so important «in these times which appear dark, in which we sometimes feel disoriented before the evil and the violence which surround us, before the distress of so many of our brothers and sisters» (page 5). This book opens with the reflections given on 7th December 2016 and inspired by the prophet Isaiah, the prophet of the Advent, the messenger of hope, and continues focusing on hope which is the result of the incarnation of the Son of God. The book also presents the remarks which are the result of the suggestions of the Letter to Romans in which Abraham shows the way of faith and hope. Hoping is a basic human need and the Pontiff reminds us, in his reflections, through the words of the prophet Jonas and the heroine Judith. The catechesis collected in this volume was pronounced from 7th December 2016 to 22nd February 2017.
